The parliament building – Országház – is one of the most important and recognizable edifices in the capital of Hungary. The monumental building is located on the Pest side, where rises majestically on the left bank of the river Danube. With its soaring towers the parliament looks like a fairytale castle from a distance. Its distinctive dome is 96 meters high. The neo-Gothic building of the Hungarian parliament, the construction of which was completed in 1904, had been designed by architect Imre Steindl. The building was erected to celebrate the unification of Buda, Pest and Óbuda.
