Mazanec is a traditional Czech pastry baked on Holy Saturday. Its formula originated probably at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. Easter sweet bun is enriched with raisins, chopped candied fruit and almonds. This Easter delicacy is made with the addition of yeast and molded into the shape of a round loaf, on top of which the sign of the cross was cut. Today the Christian symbol is replaced more often with the sprinkle of roasted flaked almonds.
