Tajine is an Arabic traditional pot made of pottery, in which meat and vegetable dishes are prepared. This pot has a distinctive shape, including a tall, funnel-shaped lid. After taking the lid away, the dish can be placed directly on the table, as the lower part of the pot resembles a tray. The markets in Marrakesh and other Moroccan cities offer tajine pots in various sizes and colors, some with intricate grooves and hand-painted ornaments. The word tajine refers also to the Moroccan dish, which is prepared in a conical pot. It is cooked in quite a low temperature, allowing long stewing of ingredients the flavors and aromas of which are mixed together.
