The Castle of Manzanares el Real (Castillo nuevo de Manzanares el Real) is situated in the town of the same name, in the southern part of the Sierra de Guadarrama Mountains, about 50 kilometers from Madrid. When building of the fortress was begun in 1475 Madrid was still a small town. The castle is a perfect example of the 15th century Spanish defensive architecture and the biggest tourist attraction of the town of Manzenares el Real.
